Worship

Baby Jesus was worshiped by those who saw the star in the east and followed the star to Bethlehem. Bow down on your knees in worship of your Lord. Do not worship angels or any other entity except God the Father, Jesus our Lord and Savior and the Holy Spirit. Do not worship human beings or things that are not alive. Lip service worship is not enough.

Baby Jesus was worshiped

Matthew 2:2    saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

Bow down in worship

Psalm 95:6    6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

Do not worship angels

Colossians 2:18    18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

Revelation 19:10    10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

Do not worship human beings

Acts 14:11    11 Now when the people saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” 12 And Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. 13 Then the priest of Zeus, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, intending to sacrifice with the multitudes.

14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their clothes and ran in among the multitude, crying out 15 and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them, 16 who in bygone generations allowed all nations to walk in their own ways. 17 Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.” 18 And with these sayings they could scarcely restrain the multitudes from sacrificing to them.

Lip-service worship is not enough

Isaiah 29:13    13 Therefore the Lord said:

“Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths

And honor Me with their lips,

But have removed their hearts far from Me,

And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,

Obedience is better than sacrifice

1 Samuel 15:22-23    22 So Samuel said:

“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,

As in obeying the voice of the Lord?

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,

And to heed than the fat of rams.

Offer your body as a living sacrifice

Romans 12:1    1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Worship Creator

Revelation 14:7    saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”

Worship God with reverence

Hebrews 12:28    28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

Worship in spirit and truth

John 4:20-24    20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”

21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Worship only true God

Exodus 20:3-5    3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.

4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

Deuteronomy 5:7    7  ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.

Matthew 4:10    10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

Worship the Lord with gladness

Psalm 29:2    2 Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

Psalm 100:2    2  Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.

Obedience is better than sacrifice. Offer your body as a living sacrifice which is your service. Worship the Creator. Worship God with reverence. Worship in spirit and truth. Worship only true God. Worship the Lord with gladness.
