Blessings of Wisdom

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction (Pr. 1:7).  If you do not already know, then after reading and studying Proverbs 2:1-22, you will understand that God does send wisdom to all who will seek, read, and study His will.

Proverbs 2:1-22

2    My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you,

2     So that you incline your ear to wisdom,

And apply your heart to understanding;

3     Yes, if you cry out for discernment,

And lift up your voice for understanding,

4      If you seek her as silver,

And search for her as for hidden treasures;

5     Then you will understand the fear of the Lord,

     And find the knowledge of God.

6      For the Lord gives wisdom;

From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;

7     He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;

He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;

8     He guards the paths of justice,

And preserves the way of His saints.

9     Then you will understand righteousness and justice,

Equity and every good path.

10     When wisdom enters your heart,

And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,

11     Discretion will preserve you;

Understanding will keep you,

12     To deliver you from the way of evil,

From the man who speaks perverse things,

13     From those who leave the paths of uprightness

To walk in the ways of darkness;

14     Who rejoices in doing evil,

And delight in the perversity of the wicked;

15      Whose ways are crooked,

And who are devious in their paths;

16     To deliver you from the immoral woman,

From the seductress who flatters with her words,

17     Who forsakes the companion of her youth,

And forgets the covenant of her God.

18     For her house leads down to death,

And her paths to the dead;

19     None who go to her return,

Nor do they regain the paths of life—

20     So you may walk in the way of goodness,

And keep to the paths of righteousness.

21     For the upright will dwell in the land,

And the blameless will remain in it;

22     But the wicked will be cut off from the earth,

And the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.

By now all who have read this Proverb should realize the admonitions of God, especially lines 1-6, which mentions opening your ears and heart, crying out for discernment (knowledge and understanding), lifting up your voice for understanding, and searching for the hidden treasures. Then if you have done this or will do this then you will understand that God does provide wisdom to all that will open their hearts, listen, and seek it.

There are commands and blessings that come out of Proverbs 2:1-22, they are as follows:

8 Commands

    1. My son if thou wilt receive my words.
    2. and hide my commandments with thee;
    3. Yea, if thou criest after knowledge,
    4. and liftest up thou voice for understanding;
    5. Yea, if thou criest after knowledge,
    6. and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
    7. If thou seekest her (wisdom) as silver,
    8. and searchest for her as for hid treasure

16 Blessings

1. Then thou shalt understand the fear of the Lord,

2. and find knowledge of God.

3. For the Lord giveth wisdom;

4. out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

5. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous;

6. He is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

7. He keepeth the paths of judgment,

8. and preserveth the way of His saints.

9. Then shalt thou understand righteousness,

10. and judgment,

11. and equity;

12. yea every good path.

13. when wisdom entereth into thine heart,

14. and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

15. Discretion shall preserve thee,

16. understanding shall keep thee:

Note that no one ever finishes the study of wisdom because there is always more to learn. The fear of the Lord is the most basic ingredient in wisdom. All wisdom depends on knowledge of God and submission to His will. To know something but not to know God overturns the value of having knowledge in the first place. Fools have rejected the fear of the Lord. Not fearing God is the same as rejecting wisdom outright (Dan. 11:32; John17:3). It is like spreading a net in the sight of a bird that one wishes to trap would be a fruitless task.  Yet the fool is less sensible than the bird, he will watch the trap being set and get caught in it anyway.
