Vineyard

            The parable of the two sons speaks of one son saying, No, I won’t work in the vineyard and then does work in the vineyard. The second son said he would work and then did not. Which son did the will of the father? The parable of the workers in the vineyard speaks of workers agreeing to work for a set wage at varying times of the day then some complaining when others were paid the same wage and came much later during the day. Solomon had a vineyard at Hamon. The vineyard of one lacking sense will have their poverty come like a prowler.

Parable of two sons

Matthew 21:28-32   28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ 29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?”

They said to Him, “The first.”

Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.

Parable of workers in the vineyard

Matthew 20:1-16    1  “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day?’ They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.’

“So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.’ And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius. 10 But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius. 11 And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner, 12 saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’ 13 But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ 16 So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”

Planting beautiful vineyards

Ecclesiastes 2:4    4  I made my works great, I built myself houses, and planted myself vineyards.

Solomon’s vineyard

Song of Solomon 8:11    11 Solomon had a vineyard at Baal Hamon;

He leased the vineyard to keepers;

Everyone was to bring for its fruit

A thousand silver coins.

Vineyard of one lacking sense

Proverbs 24:30    30 I went by the field of the lazy man, And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding;

31        And there it was, all overgrown with thorns;

Its surface was covered with nettles;

Its stone wall was broken down.

32        When I saw it, I considered it well;

I looked on it and received instruction:

33        A little sleep, a little slumber,

A little folding of the hands to rest;

34        So shall your poverty come like a prowler,

And your need like an armed man.
