Annual temple tax for the service of the house of God. Some borrowed to pay taxes. Collectors were told to collect only what was appointed to them.  Jehoiakim collected gold and silver in proportion to wealth and gave it to the King. In Capernaum people asked Peter if Jesus paid temple tax. Jesus associated with tax collectors.

Oppressive taxes

Amos 5:11    11   Therefore, because you tread down the poor

And take grain taxes from him,

Though you have built houses of hewn stone,

Yet you shall not dwell in them;

You have planted pleasant vineyards,

But you shall not drink wine from them.
