He who guards his mouth (controls the tongue) preserves his life and lives long. Do not let sin control you that you should obey it in its lusts. Exhibit self-control. Exhibit the fruit of the spirit which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Control tongue and live long
Proverbs 13:3 3 He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.
James 1:26 26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.
James 3:2 2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
Do not let sin control you
Romans 6:12 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
Exhibit self control
1 Timothy 3:2 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;
Titus 2:2-3 2 that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; 3 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things—
Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22, 23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Great value in controlling temper
Proverbs 16:32 32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
Make every effort
2 Peter 1:5-8 Fruitful Growth in the Faith
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Reward of self-control
Revelation 21:7 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
Self-control over life in general
Acts 24:25 25 Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered, “Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you.”
Those who control anger are wise
Proverbs 14:29 29 He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, But he who is impulsive exalts folly.
There is great value in controlling your temper. Make every effort to have fruitful growth in the faith. There is a reward for self-control, he who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. Self-control over life in general is when one reasons about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come.
