The Riches of God’s Grace & Mercy

Here we learn from passages of God’s Word about the grace and mercy He gives to all of us. These passages and the messages within them really show how much God really loves us.

Grace

Ephesians 1:7

7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace,

Ephesians 2:7

7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Abounds for every need:

2 Corinthians 9:8

6But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 9 As it is written:

“He has dispersed abroad,

He has given to the poor;

His righteousness endures forever.”

10 Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, 11 while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God. 12 For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God, 13 while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men, 14 and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding grace of God in you. 15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

By grace we are saved:

Ephesians 2:8-9

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Do not miss out on God’s grace:

Hebrews 12:14-15

14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;

Finding grace at God’s throne:

Hebrews 4:16

16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Given by Christ:

1 Corinthians 1:4        4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus,

Given to each of us:

Ephesians 4:7

7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.

Gives grace to humble:

Proverbs 3:34

34Surely He scorns the scornful,

But gives grace to the humble.

God of all grace:

1 Peter 5:10

10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

Grace and truth from Jesus Christ:

John 1:14-17

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ”

16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Justification by grace:

Romans 3:24

24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Sufficiency of God’s grace:

1 Corinthians 15:10

10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

Unmerited favor:

Romans 4:16        16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all

Where sin increased, grace increased:

Romans 5:20, 21        20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

Mercy

Mercy of His Love

Ephesians 2:4   4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

Clothe yourselves with mercy:

Colossians 3:12

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;

God blesses the merciful:

Matthew 5:7

7   Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.

God’s mercy and compassion:

Deuteronomy 4:31

31 (for the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.

God’s mercy goes out to those who fear Him:

Luke 1:50

50  And His mercy is on those who fear Him

     From generation to generation.

New mercies every morning:

Lamentations 3:22, 24

22     Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,

     Because His compassions fail not.

23     They are new every morning;

     Great is Your faithfulness.

24     “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,

     “Therefore I hope in Him!”

Those who confess sins find mercies:

Proverbs 28:13

13  He who covers his sins will not prosper,

But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

We have learned that through God’s grace we have:

  1. Redemption and forgiveness
  2. Kindness
  3. God is able to make grace abound to you
  4. By grace we are saved
  5. Pursue peace with all people, looking out carefully for God’s grace lest anyone will fall short of God’s grace
  6. We find grace at God’s throne
  7. It is given by Jesus Christ
  8. It is given to each of us
  9. God gives grace to the humble
  10. He is the God of all grace
  11. Jesus is full of grace and truth
  12. We have been justified freely by His grace through redemption in Jesus Christ
  13. I am what I am by the grace of God
  14. We receive grace through faith
  15. Where sin increases, God’s grace increases

What have we learned about mercy?

  1. God is rich in mercy
  2. Therefore as the elect of God we should put on tender mercies
  3. God blesses the merciful

God in his mercy does not give us what we do deserve but God in his grace gives us what we don’t deserve.

Take note that probably the most important good things are God’s love, mercy, and grace. For if it were not for His love, mercy and grace we would not exist or we would be the stew in the pot of Satan.

God is testing us every day and has given us the right to make our own choices. Do you know which ones are the right choices in Gods mind?

Fear God, love God, honor God, and trust God with all your heart, mind and soul and you will receive and experience the joy of the promises of God’s blessings in His time.
