Priorities of Life

In the priorities of life there are many but some of them are more important. Here are a few described in God’s inerrant and inspired bible: Better to be a servant than ambitious, better to be free from concerns of life, better to be godly and have little, better to lose part of body than go to hell, do not store treasures on earth, God and His will is the top priority, a good reputation is better than riches, kingdom more important than relatives, etc.

Better to be a servant than ambitious

Luke 22:26   26 But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves.

Better to be free from the concerns of life

1 Corinthians 7:32, 33    32 But I want you to be without care. He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord—how he may please the Lord. 33 But he who is married cares about the things of the world—how he may please his wife.

Commentary: The situation illustrates Paul’s point that the single life with its greater simplicity in obligations allows a potentially greater commitment of time, resources, and self to the Lord than would be possible for a married person dutifully carrying out the marital and familial obligations attached to that state.

Better to godly and have little

Psalm 37:16    16 A little that a righteous man has Is better than the riches of many wicked.

Proverbs 16:8    8 Better is a little with righteousness, Than vast revenues without justice.

Better to lose one part of the body than to go to hell

Matthew 5:29, 30    29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

Matthew 18:9    And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.

Do not store treasures on earth

Matthew 6:19-20    19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Frankness rather than flattery

Proverbs 28:23    23 He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward Than he who flatters with the tongue.

God and His will, top priority

Matthew 6:33    33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Good reputation better than riches

Proverbs 22:1    1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold.

Kingdom more important than relatives

Luke 18:29, 30    29 So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30 who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.”

Living is for Christ, dying is better

Philippians 1:21    21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Love Jesus more than mother or father

Matthew 10:37    37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

Luke 14:26    26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

More blessed to give

Acts 20:35    35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

Obedience better than sacrifice

1 Samuel 15:22    22 So Samuel said:

“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,

As in obeying the voice of the Lord?

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,

And to heed than the fat of rams.

Open rebuke better than hidden love

Proverbs 27:5    5 Open rebuke is better Than love carefully concealed.

Return to first love

Revelation 2:4   Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.

Store up treasure in heaven

Luke 12:33    33 Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.

Value of kingdom, parable of hidden treasure and pearl—-

Matthew 13:44-46    44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Virtuous wife worth more than rubies

Proverbs 31:10    10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.

Wise speech worth more than gold and rubies

Proverbs 20:15    15 There is gold and a multitude of rubies, But the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

Wound of friend better than kiss of enemy

Proverbs 27:6    Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Living is for Christ, dying is better. Love Jesus more than your mother and father. Obedience is better than sacrifice. Return to your first love (Christ). Store up your treasure in heaven. A virtuous wife is worth more than rubies. Wise speech is worth more than gold and rubies. The wound of a friend is better than the kiss of an enemy.

There is nothing to compare with the richness of God’s love, mercy, wisdom and goodness towards His children. Amen.

God is testing us every day and has given us the right to make our own choices. Do you know which ones are the right choices in Gods mind?
