The Pharisees because of their worshiping Jesus but teaching their “commandments of men” caused Jesus to call their worship a “farce”. Paul said “Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee; concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”
Acts 23:6 6 But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee; concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”
Brood of snakes
Matthew 3:7 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Matthew 6:2 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
Luke 12:1 1 In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Tried to trap Jesus
Matthew 19:3 3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”
Matthew 22:15 15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk.
Wanted miraculous sign
Matthew 12:38-39 38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”
39 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
Worship is a farce
Matthew 15:9 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”
Jesus referred to the Pharisees as a brood of snakes when they began coming to Him and wanting to be baptized. Jesus also called the Pharisees hypocrites because when they did a charitable deed they sounded their trumpets in the synagogues and on the streets that they may have the glory of men instead of seeking His glory. They tried to trap Jesus by testing Him by asking controversial questions about the bible and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk. The Pharisees were true hypocrites and a brood of snakes for writing their version of the bible and teaching it and for testing Jesus and trying to trap him.
Please remember that if we have any hope in our Lord and Savior who gave us “everything” we must be continually faithful to the Lord, first. Remember, God loved us first, even before He created us.
