Penitence is described in the dictionary as the humble realization of and regret for one’s faults. The bible has the following to say about penitence:
Angels rejoice when sinners repent
Luke 15:7-10    I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
Broken and repentant heart
Psalm 51:17    17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.
God answers prayers of the penitent
2 Chronicles 7:14    14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
God comforts the penitent
Matthew 5:4    4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
God forgives the penitent
Micah 7:18    18 Who is a God like You,
Pardoning iniquity
And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage?
He does not retain His anger forever,
Because He delights in mercy.
God gives the Holy Spirit to the penitent
Acts 2:38    38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
God gives life to the penitent
Ezekiel 18:21    21 “But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
God pardons sins of penitent
Isaiah 55:7    7 Let the wicked forsake his way,
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
Let him return to the Lord,
And He will have mercy on him;
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.
Lord is close to the brokenhearted
Psalm 34:18    18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.
        God answers the prayers of the penitent, comforts the penitent, forgives the penitent, gives the Holy Spirit to the penitent, gives life to the penitent and pardons the sins of the penitent.  The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a contrite spirit. Praise be to the God of heaven, our Father, our Creator and Sustainer of all things and the One we can always count on for peace, mercy and love.
There is nothing to compare with the richness of God’s love, mercy, wisdom and goodness towards His children. Amen.
God is testing us every day and has given us the right to make our own choices. Do you know which ones are the right choices in Gods mind?
