Murmuring (Complaining)

Murmuring in the bible is spoken of in several different contexts such as: Murmuring against God, Christ, the disciples and by a complaining wife. Murmuring angers God.  It is best not to grumble.

 

Murmuring against Christ

Luke 5:30    30 And their scribes and the Pharisees complained against His disciples, saying, “Why do You eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

 

John 6:41-43, 52    41 The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, “I am the bread which came down from heaven.” 42 And they said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”

43 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, “Do not murmur among yourselves.

52 The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”

 

Murmuring against disciples

Mark 7:2   Now when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault.

Murmuring against God

Proverbs 19:3    3 The foolishness of a man twists his way, And his heart frets against the Lord.

 

Murmuring angers God

Numbers 14:2, 11    And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness!

  11 Then the Lord said to Moses: “How long will these people reject Me? And how long will they not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them?

 

Deuteronomy 9:8, 22    Also in Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, so that the Lord was angry enough with you to have destroyed you.

22 “Also at Taberah and Massah and Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked the Lord to wrath.

 

Complaining wife

Proverbs 21:19    19  Better to dwell in the wilderness, Than with a contentious and angry woman.

 

Do not grumble

1 Corinthians 10:9-10    nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

 

Examples of murmuring

Exodus 14:11    11 Then they said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt?

 

Exodus 15:24    24 And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”

 

Exodus 16:2    Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.

 

Exodus 17:3    And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”

 

Numbers 11:1    1 Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord; for the Lord heard it, and His anger was aroused. So the fire of the Lord burned among them, and consumed some in the outskirts of the camp.

 

Numbers 14:27    27 “How long shall I bear with this evil congregation who complain against Me? I have heard the complaints which the children of Israel make against Me.

 

Psalm 77:3    3 I remembered God, and was troubled; I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed.

 

God hears all complaints

Numbers 14:27   27 “How long shall I bear with this evil congregation who complain against Me? I have heard the complaints which the children of Israel make against Me.

 

Stay away from complaining and arguing

Philippians 2:14    14 Do all things without complaining and disputing,

 

Wicked people engage in

Jude 10    10 But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.

 

Whether you know it or not God hears all complaints. It is best to stay away from complaining and arguing. Wicked people engage in complaining. Murmuring angers God.

 

Please remember that if we have any hope in our Lord and Savior who gave us “everything” we must be continually faithful to the Lord, first. Remember, God loved us first, even before He created us.

God is testing us every day and has given us the right to make our own choices. Do you know which ones are the right choices in Gods mind?

Fear God, love God, honor God, and trust God with all your heart, mind and soul and you will receive and experience the promises of God’s blessings in His time.

 

Prayer:   Father in heaven, I praise You for Your Son and the Holy Spirit. I praise You for Your grace in sending us Your wisdom about “Murmuring.”  Please bless those who have read this article for they too are seeking Your righteous truth, love, wisdom and understanding.

May God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit and Christianity be our guiding lights, our safety nets and our inspiration for loving happiness in all of Your kingdom. Father into your hands I commend my spirit. Not my will, but Yours be done. Please come Lord Jesus.
